Writing Retreat at Odosagih Bible Conference and Retreat Center

So, basically, these are some of the pictures I took Saturday afternoon at the Retreat Center in Machias, NY. The morning started out pretty gray and chilly but by afternoon it was absolutely beautiful, especially with the sun setting between the trees and overlooking the lake. These are some of the photos I got in before my camera died. Basically, this place was the perfect place to get away and write. [Helpful Hint: If you click on a photo, you can see a bigger version of it.]

Later, I plan to post a little bit more about what we did at the retreat itself. We heard from unpublished author Hannah Mills-Woolsey and Dr. Carolyn Weber whose memoir [which I now have a signed copy of], is entitled Surprised by Oxford. We also got to have devotions by former Houghton professor and author/poet, Jack Leax. I want to share specifically with you about an exercise Carolyn Weber had us do on Saturday morning, called Examen. It is an Ignatius spiritual exercise that certain professors Dr. Weber knew would actually practice sometimes twice a day. I was surprised by how refreshing and revealing it was, just to focus on some of the things going on with yourself and God underneath the surface. But I'll share more on that...and maybe even some journal excerpts, in my next post.

xoxo Lizzie
